It’s been collecting dust in my cupboard for years now and I was keeping it as an investment because these beauties are getting rare and are always gaining in value.
With most 35 year old instruments there are some minor scuffs and scratches but none big enough to mention. There is however some slight lifting of the body pick guard as shown in a photo I have included. All of the silver you can see is nickle, if I had the time it will polish up to a brilliant perfect shine. Some nob-head who was a smoker left thier cigarette in the strings of the head stock, unfortuneately this has caused minor surface burns on the side of the head, very minor. A repairer told me a light sand and stroke of laquor would have it looking brand new. The case is probably the worst part of this deal and in saying that I have seen far worse. The case handle is broke (see photo) but this can be repaired reasonably easily or you can conjour up something yourself. The case has scuffs, all lock clips are in working order, it is still quite stable and doing it’s job protecting the heart inside.
Totally factory original to my knowledge. I had another G3 I customized with demagio pick-ups which I gigged with for 10 years, it sounded great but this one sounds better to my suprise. It has a beautiful sound, lovely intonation, no fret buzz, is nice, heavy, solid and almost perfect laquer throughout. It’s a dream to play. I will miss her, I thought I would keep her for ever because of the sentimentality the G3 is to me but now I’m concentrating on singing and I could do with the cash. Unfortunately I cant play and sing at the same time to save my life. So now I want to pass this on to someone who will use and enjoy her.
I am open to international postage but i can tell you it costs allot. I bought a guitar from the US and postage was around $250!!! Gahhhh! If you decide you’d like it posted I will endeavour to get you a quote from Australia post and get a guitar packing box to send the whole unit in. I will not add more onto postage like some people like doing on ebay, I will include a copy of the postage invoice inside the case but I will require you to pay for postage out of your own pocket. Item will not be posted until payment is recieved. Finally if you are in a band I’d love one day to pop in and see her in action and say hi
Gibson G3 Bass
Solid maple, maple neck. Maple gloss finish. 34 1/2 inch scale.
The Grabber 3 or G3 was launched in 1975, as an upgraded Grabber G1. The only difference between a G1 and a G3 is the pickup configuration. The G3 features 3 single coil pickups “wired in humbucking configuration, opening up a whole new world of sound for bass players”
G3 Controls
Forward position activates the front and middle pickups in humbucking configuration.
The back position activates the middle and back pickup in the same manner.
The middle position activates all three pickups for what we have coined a “buck-and-a-half”.
Wood and Finish
Natural maple gloss (maple body), Fretboard is maple.
Kiss: Alive! (1975)
One of the hardest-rocking live albums of all time, this two-disc set catapulted Kiss to multi-platinum fame. On the cover, Gene Simmons’ classic Gibson Grabber bass, Ace Frehey’s ever-present Les Paul and Paul Stanley’s Firebird upstaged the band’s cartoon-glam makeup and platform shoes.
Other well known Ripper and Grabber users include Krist Novoselic (Nirvana), Rick Danko (The Band), Mikey Welsh (Weezer), Suzi Quatro, Mike Shuman (Queens of The Stone Age) and Jerry Casale (Devo)
Krist-Novoselic (Nirvana) used this Black Gibson Ripper Bass, for the recording of “Nevermind” and “In Utero”
