Drums are not easy to learn. If you ever tried them, you know what I mean. It is therefore important for beginners to use every opportunity to get more familiar with them. Get to know them, learn how they work. Assemble them, set them up properly, and so on. In this article we’ll go through some tips on how to properly set up your drum set.
Today, drums can be ordered by mail. But they don’t come preassembled, do they? If you think about it, this is actually good. You will have the opportunity to see how it all fits together. It’s important to understand that assembling must be done correctly, so if you are new to this, it’s good to have someone who knows its stuff to watch over your shoulder.
When drums are correctly put together, it’s time to set them up. This is a personal, subjective thing and there are no universal rules on how to do it. Everyone has its own preferences. What is crucial here is your comfort.
First, focus on your seat. You must make sure that you are comfortable. Adjust the height in such a way so that your feet lay flat on the ground. Your knees should be bent at about 45 degree angle and your thighs should be fairly parallel with the floor. You should feel balanced and stable.
Unfortunately, many beginners don’t think that this is very important. But it is. Trust me, it is much better to be comfortable than to look cool. Take your time and find your comfort zone.
While sitting you should be able to touch every piece of your drum set with your hand. Everything has to be in reach. You know it’s too far away, if you have to reach for it.
Try to experiment with different settings. As said before there is no right or wrong way to do this. The only thing you have to make sure is that you are comfortable.

Question: is reading music important in drumming? Should you learn it? Is it worth your time? These are all common questions and the answer to all of them is short and simple – yes. Yes, it is important. Yes, you should learn it. And yes, it is worth your time. Why? Because it can help you on many, many levels. You really want to be good at drumming? Then learn how to read music.
First, let me say that learning drum notation is not as difficult as many would have you believe. I won’t lie to you, you won’t become proficient at it overnight, but it’s not as hard as you might think. And it’s definitely worth your time and effort.
What is so important about reading music? Well, where do I start? First, it will simply make you a better musician. Not only will you understand your instrument better, but you will also understand music better. The whole world of music will open up for you.
Another great thing is that you’ll be able to play practically any song you want. Without even knowing that song. Everything you’ll need you will find in notation. And gone are the days when you had to memorize everything.
Drum notation is a bit different than standard notation. There is a staff like in standard version, but the lines and spaces represent different things. In standard version lines and spaces represent different pitches, in drum notation they represent different drums. Each drum in the kit has its own place on the staff. For example, bass drum is on the bottom line, snare drum is in the middle, and so on.
What you need to know is that drum notation is the most accurate form of instructions on how to play a particular song. It tells you practically everything you need to know. You just need to learn how to understand it.

Some people think that playing drums is just hitting something with a stick. Obviously they haven’t tried it. Because if they did, they would know how difficult they can actually be. In this article we’ll talk about beginners and what they need to understand in order to tackle this wonderful instrument.
First, you need to understand that drums are a challenging instrument. They are not easy and they require quite some time to really get used to. As a beginner it is important not to rush it. Go slowly and always start with the basics.
Take the necessary time to know the instrument. It’s good, if you assemble your drum set on your own. You will get familiar with it and you will have a better understanding how it works.
You can go a step further and learn how to tune your drums. Having them properly tuned is really important. You don’t ever want to play drums that are out of tune. You might need a bit of help with this at the beginning, but try to learn it yourself. The quicker you learn the better.
As said before, the basics are really important; they are the foundation of effective learning, so don’t skip them. Even something that you think you already know – like how to sit correctly and how to hold your drumsticks. These are all the foundations.
One of the biggest mistake beginners make is not learning the fundamentals. Don’t be one of those. If you get ahead of yourself, you will get discouraged. That is the number one reason why people fail.
When you’re just starting out, you need to know what you are doing. You need lessons, well structured and well guided lessons. Don’t worry, in this day and age they won’t cost you a fortune. You can get quality lessons on DVDS. But remember, you need them.
Drums definitely aren’t easy, but they are very rewarding. If you take the time to learn the basics, there is nothing that can stop you.
